Getting ready for 1.0
After weeks of mowing, balancing and repainting, Lawn Mower Empire is getting ready for its first release on Steam. The game is feature complete: from the hand mower in your backyard to MowZilla on a galactic lawn, with robots, seasons and a Field Journal full of upgrades. What's left is polish, testing and the store page.
The licences are sorted
A game you sell has to be clean all the way down, so we went through everything that ships with it:
- Music: our new theme, Suburban Sprawl, comes with a commercial licence from Suno. You hear it in our new trailer, and it is becoming the main theme of the game itself.
- Fonts: the handwriting and lettering in the Field Journal (Caveat, Permanent Marker, Oswald and Inter) are open fonts under the SIL Open Font License and the Apache License, which allow use in a commercial game. Their licence texts ship with the game.
- Steam: leaderboards and achievements run on Steamworks.NET, an open-source library under the MIT licence.
That means nothing stands between the game and the store anymore.
A proper version number
The main menu no longer shows the Unity version. It now says 1.0 followed by a build ID, so every bug report tells us exactly which build you were playing.
A studio intro
Before the main menu, the game now opens with a short Clipstore intro: our logo, a voice and then straight to the lawn.
What's next
Next up are the Steam page, its own App ID so leaderboards and achievements go live, and a last round of play testing. Follow the devlog here for the release date.
